Meets third Thursday of each month.

The next meeting is our Photo Review meeting on Monday 30th March.

The photos captured at the Bicentennial Park outing will be reviewed at this meeting at  my home in Lindfield plus the “Elephant Challenge” photos and any other photos members wish to share.

The “Elephant Challenge”

Our third challenge I have set the Group is to take photos of a small elephant figurine that I have given to the regular Photo Group members in any setting, location or situation.

I have been very, very impressed by the creativeness and variety that members have applied to the first two challenges (“Five Forks” and “Springtime Flowers”) and they are to be congratulated for rising magnificently to the challenge. I can’t wait to see at the result of Challenge No. 3.

The SYDNEY TRAMWAY MUSEUM at Loftus

Wednesday 4th March 2026

Note the change from our usual Tuesday date. Note also that registration is required by 25th February, together with a payment of $20 per person..

The Outing Is a guided tour of the museum, commencing with a 40-minute tram ride starting at 11.00am. Travel to the museum is by train from Central to Loftus, leaving Central at 9:40am to arrive at Loftus at 10:25am. Following the museum tour, we will go by train to Sutherland for lunch at the "Club on East". More details of these arrangements are in the February WRAP.

A Brief History of the Museum
The Sydney Tramway Museum began life in 1950, with the preservation of Lp class tram 154 by four young tram enthusiasts Norm Chinn, Robert Young, Ken McCarthy and Ben Parle. From 1957, the Museum was able to establish a site on the edge of the Royal National Park, next to what is now today the “Parklink” tramline. This location had had its share of history already; during the latter years of World War II, this had been an Army camp site, and from December 1946 to January 1947, it was the site of the first post-war Boy Scouts’ Corroboree organised at a state level. From 1965, the museum operated trams to the public from this site, based out of a large corrugated iron shed constructed by the volunteers of the museum. In 1988, the Museum moved to its current premises next to Loftus railway station and has continued to grow its collection and facilities ever since.

2603 Books Harper.jpg
2603 Books Guthrie.jpg
2603 Books Nagasaki.jpg
2603 Books Buchan.jpg
  • Last One Out– Jane Harper - Fiction – Thanks to Brendan Owen

Last One Out does something different to Harper’s previous works. The story concentrates on a family with a son, Sam, who disappeared five years prior to the book’s beginning. The novel’s focus remains on the mother, Ro, who fled her marriage and the community after the initial trauma. Yet she returns each year to the failing town to acknowledge her loss and to connect with the friends and family who remain.

  • The Peak – Sam Guthrie– Fiction - Thanks to Mark Tunstall

A debut novel, The Peak kicks off with a violent act, ratcheting up the paranoia and tension from there. We follow Charlie as he attempts to discern the truth of the death of his best friend, an Assistant Minister in the Aust Govt, not only while the security forces of Australia and China are gunning for him but after a massive cyberattack has seen transport and power in both Sydney and Melbourne grind to a halt
.

  • The Bells of Nagasaki– Takashi Nagai – Nonfiction - Thanks to John White

A harrowing, heart-rending first-hand account of the bombing of Nagasaki. On 9 August 1945, the Japanese city of Nagasaki is hit by an atomic bomb. Forty thousand people are killed instantly. Doctor Takashi Nagai is not one of them. Eyewitness to one of the most fatal events in human history, this is Takashi's record, written from his sickbed - a chilling historical document, and undeniable evidence of the capacity for human kindness.

  • The Thirty-Nine Steps – John Buchan – Classic - Thanks to James Loxton

Recently returned from South Africa, adventurer Richard Hannay is bored with life. After a chance encounter with an American who informs him of an assassination plot and is then promptly murdered in Hannay's London flat, he becomes the obvious suspect and is forced to go on the run. He heads north to his native Scotland, fleeing the police and his enemies. Hannay must keep his wits about him if he is to warn the government before all is too late.

We meet, talk, drink beer/wine/coffee - have fun!  Then a quick lunch.
